Trawler grounded off Lerwick
The 'Rosebloom (INS 353)', 240 gt (IMO: 9292723), ran aground on a rock north of Lerwick Harbour in the early morning of Nov 16, 2019. The trawler hit a rock, known as the “Soldian”, at 1a.m. and remained stuck in pos. 60° 12.67' N 001° 5.02' W. The Lerwick lifeboat and the two Lerwick Port Authority tugs 'Kebister' and 'Knab' were called out but were unable to pull the casualty off. The nine crew members were taken off the stricken vessel by the lifeboat around 4 a.m. and safely returned to Lerwick harbour, with only minor injuries, and into the care of the ambulance service. Weather conditions were calm with light winds and a moderate sea swell, with the air temperature just above freezing. Another attempt to the trawler off, which was stuck with a list to port, started at the next high tide. Before, a part of the crew went back aboard the vessel, and pumps were supplied by the 'Ocean Kinetics' to keep the water level down in the holed ship. The 'Knab' and 'Kebister' managed to pull it off at 12.48 p.m. and started towing the trawler to the Morrison dock where the fishing partner 'Boy John (INS 110)' was berthed too. The Rosebloom had landed fish at Lerwick last night before heading out to sea again in the early hours.
