Cargo ship sheltered in Cee after cargo shift
On Feb 25 at 8 a.m. the "NBP Voyager" called at Cee port, Corcubion, after suffering cargo shift 280 miles east of Bordeaux in the Bay of Biscay on Feb 23-24. The ship had been carrying 7000 tons of packed sawn timber when the deck cargo shifted, and the vessel developed a portside list. After cargo holding poles gave way, part of the deck cargo went overboard. The vessel had to change the course and head for nearest port to re-stow the cargo. In Cee the small harbor crane which is particularly suitable for moving timber, was busy all day removing packages. Cargo shift in storm
In the night of Feb 23 to 24, 2015, parts of the timber cargo of the "NBP Voyager", which was enroute from Riga to Corcubion, became unfastened in bad weather about 280 nautical miles west of Bordeaux between Ushant and Cape Finistere. About 80 packs had to be slipped to regain the stability of the vessel in swells of 8 to 10 metres. On Feb 24 and 25, two surveillance flights have been made by a French customs aircraft from Lorient to track the position of the wooden planks 250 miles off the coast. The MRCC Madrid was kept informed of developments in the situation by the CROSS Etel. On Feb 25, the maritime prefect of the Atlantic requested the Bockstiegel Reederei in Emden as the owner of the cargo ship to mitigate the hazard to navigation.
