Disabled vessel towed to Jersey

Wed Dec 08 17:31:10 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'River Trader', en route from Jersey to Emden with five crew members on board, called Mayday on Dec 7, 2021, at 5.25 p.m. after losing power in strong winds. The ship was anchored off the north coast of Jersey to shelter from the strong south-westerly winds when the propulsion systems failed. The RNLI all-weather lifeboat was launched to Bouley Bay and went on standby to provide reassurance to the vessel. At 9 p.m. the tug 'Duke of Normandy' was also deployed from St. Helier to stand-by the vessel overnight. The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to the St. Helier. In the morning of Dec 8, the 'Duke of Nprmandy' established a towing connecton to the River Trader and set course to St. Helier’s Victoria Pier, where the ship was berthed at 4 p.m. Report with photo: https://www.bailiwickexpress.com/jsy/news/cargo-ship-calls-mayday-after-losing-power-strong-winds/#.YbDctFAxnIU
