Lifeboat beyond repair
On Oct 20 became clear that the "Ægir" was beyong repair and will be scrapped. The boat suffered such severe damage that it would cost very much money to repair it, especially as it would still be an almost 30 year old boat.
Lifeboat pulled off Lista beach
The "Ægir" was refloated by the "Emmy Divy" on Oct 5 at 2 p.m. Salvage manager Paul Storholt was aboard Ægir and confirmed the ship did not take in water and everything went according to plan. Before the "Ægir" could be pulled out to sea again, a 50- and a 20-ton-excavator had worked for several days hsbr worked to remove rocks around the boat. The 50 ton-excavator pushed the boat from the shore when the tide was suitable. Three holes in the hull were sealed. Floating bags had been attached to the hull to increase the buoyancy in the very shallow water with many sharp rocks. The "Ægir" was to be inspected at the Båtservice Mandal. The future of the boat will depend on how much damage there is and how much the insurance company is willing to pay. The "Ægir" is the second oldest boat in the rescue fleet, but there were no concrete plans to replace it. Lifeboat to be salvaged after leak has been patched
On Oct 1 the salvors of Agder Marine from Mandal deployed three employees of Mandal to prepare the "Ægir" for being pulled out of pebbles. They emptied it of the 4,200 liters of diesel to avoid that the fuel could spill into the sea, and to make the boat as easy as possible. They took out everything possible to decrease the weight. Excavators were sent to the grounding site. The salvage plans were however delayed because of efforts to seal the vessel. A hole which was found in the hull was to be patched on Oct 5 around 10 a.m. Then the boat will be pulled out using another lifeboat, the "Emmy Dyvi" and several excavators will also be assisting. The lifeboat was then to be towed to Mandal for surveys. First investigations showed that damage was less than initially feared. On Oct 5 already more than 200000 Norwegian Crowns have been collected by the Live Saving Society.
