Fri May 06 09:41:01 CEST 2011 Timsen

The 24 Filipino sailorsaboard the "Renuar" arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on May 5, 2011, in the afternoon via Emirates Airlines. They were escorted by representatives of the vessel’s principal and the local manning agency in their flight from Dubai to Manila. Representatives of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) accompanied the seafarers to where their families were waiting. The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai assisted the Filipino crew upon their arrival at the Fujairah and facilitated their immigration requirements for their immediate repatriation. All men were in good health and glad to be home.

Also the European Union's anti-piracy task force said on Thursday, that Somali pirates have freed the Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Renuar and its crew of 24 Filipinos after four months in captivity, Reuters reports. "The ship is now sailing to a safe port," EU Navfor said in a brief online statement. Pirates firing rocket propelled grenades seized the 17,156 tonne vessel on December 11 as it headed to the United Arab Emirates from Mauritius. EU Navfor did not say if a ransom had been paid.
