Tank barge refloated

In the foremidday of Oct 11 on the whole 170 of the 786 tons nitrit acid were lightered onto the "Otto Deymann" to reduce the draught of the "Relationship". Then the barge was refloated jointly by the "Otto Deymann" and the tug "Rheinland" and could continue the voyage to Antwerp. The Rhine was closed for ship traffic between St. Goar and Bingen during the salvage work. On Oct 10 two tugs in vain had tried to pull the ship off. Tank barge stuck on the Rhine

The "Relationship", 2403 ts (EU-No.: 04803770) ran aground on the Rhine on Oct 8, 2016, at 11.35 p.m. The ship got stuck on the Jungfern Ground opposite Oberwesel. It was loaded nitric acid enroute from Ludwigshafen to Antwerp. The 59-year-old skipper had misinterpreted a radar image error, so he sailed past a buoy on the wrong river side and got stuck with the bow at a river bend. The other four crew members were sleeping at the time of the accident.The ship was stuck outside the fairway, and the Police St Goar asked passing ships to reduce their speed. The cargo was to be pumped into another tanker to get the ship off which succeeded in the foremidday of Oct 10.
