Medevac off Papeete
In the night of March 12, 2022, a crew member of the 'Regatta' was medevaced by helicopter after suffering a cardiac arrest at around 8:30 p.m.. The shipping agent informed the JRCC Papeete that the man was subsequently revived. The ship was then north of Rangiroa, more than 120 nautical miles from the atoll. The JRCC first got the ship in contact with the MRCC in Toulouse, before carrying out a conference call with the Samu of French Polynesia. After receiving the patient's medical information, it was decided, shortly after 10 p.m., to evacuate the sailor urgently. A Dauphin helicopter was sent to the scene and hoisted the man on March 13 at 3:10 a.m. He was received in Tahiti at the Taaone hospital at 5:20 a.m.
Medevac off Sitka
The Coast Guard medevaced a man suffering medical complications from the "Regatta" south of Sitka on July 23, 2019. Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Juneau command center received the medevac request from the cruise ship at approximately 8:30 p.m. The ship was about 50 miles south of Sitka bound for Victoria, British Columbia, at the time of the request, but turned around to meet the aircrew closer to Sitka. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hoisted the 69-year-old man from the cruise ship Regatta and brought him to an awaiting Sitka Fire and Rescue crew in Sitka. Loading Ad “The crew aboard this ship was very skilled and cooperative in helping us prepare this man for a hoist,” said Lt. Kellen Browne, co-pilot for the case. “Thanks to their help we were able to execute this mission seamlessly, and bring this man to the care he needed back in Sitka.”
Medevac off Maui
A 70-year-old Australian woman arrived safely to Maui Memorial Medical Center on Apr 3, 2018, after being medically evacuated from the "Regatta" off Maui. On Apr 2 at 1:37 p.m. JRCC watchstanders received a request from the captain of the "Regatta" regarding a passenger who was experiencing severe abdominal pains. They consulted a Coast Guard flight surgeon who recommended an immediate medical evacuation. The "Regatta" was 276 miles from Maui en route back to San Diego at the time of the initial notification. They diverted back to Maui to come within range for the Dolphin aircrew to facilitate the medevac. At 3:35 a.m. on Apr 3, a Dolphin aircrew conducted a hoist from the "Regatta". As a safety precaution due to unfavorable weather conditions, an HC-130 Hercules aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point was also on scene to provide cover. The patient was safely transported to the Kahului Airport in Maui where local emergency medical services personnel were waiting. She was transferred to the hospital in stable condition.
