Red Funnel cancelled sailings

Red Funnel has cancelled some of its sailings on the morning of Aug 24 over an issue with two of its vessels. The 7.50 a.m. sailing of the 'Red Jet 7' from Cowes and the 8.30 a.m. departure of the 'Red Osprey' from East Cowes have both been cancelled. A fault with a generator onboard the 'Ret Jet 7' and a fault with the voith unit on the 'Red Osprey' was to blame.

Disruptions to continue for several days

Disruptions on Red Funnel's Red Jet service were to continue until at least March 22. A replacement vessel of Blue Funnel was running in its place but journeys are taking up to 50 minutes, as opposed to the usual 28 minutes. Red Funnel was to run three extra sailings from both Southampton and Cowes at peak times after a water jet issue was reported with the 'Red Jet 6' and a technical issue with the starboard jet room on the 'Red Jet 7'. The 'Red Jet 6' was docked in Southampton, alongside the 'Red Jet 4', while the 'Red Jet 7' was sent to the Wight Shipyard, East Cowes. Repairs to the 'Red Jet 7's jet propulsion system were underway. Two Wightlink ferries troubled

The CEO of Red Funnel Ferries has apologised for the disruption and delays on the weekend of March 15/16, 2024, which brought misery to hundreds of people travelling between Southampton and Cows upon the the Isle of Wight The 'Red Jet 7' had suspended its passenger service on March 16 because of technical problems in the propulsion system. A technical team was working to resolve the issue. Red Jet will be offering a replacement service from March 17, which will take 50 minutes rather than the Red Jet's 28 minutes crossing. An issue with a fuel leak on the 'Red Eagle' meant the ferry was also out of commission for a time, causing major delays and crowded crossings because of the backlog.
