Car carrier sandwiched tug
In the morning of Apr 13, 2018, while maneuvering in Durban harbour, the "CSCC Asia" pinned the tug "Inyalazi" (IMO: 8317679) against its berth at the tug pier. The car carrier had a pilot on board and sandwiched the tug which was hit at starboard side and pushed against the pier in the tug basin. The "Inyalazi" suffered serious damages, while the car carrier suffered some abrasions on its starboard side, but no breach of the hull and left Durban on Apr 14, bound for Luanda, ETA Apr 20. At the time of the accident no one was aboard the "Inyalazi", but damage occurred to the quayside and the tug sustained a hole on its starboard side which caused a water ingress. The tug "Umbilo" was deployed to the site with a salvage pump to drain the water. Divers and marine crew from port of Durban were on site to assess the extent of damage to the vessel and to prevent more water entering the tug. SAMSA personnel also came to do an assessment on the damage to both vessels. The tug was out of commission when the incident happened. The "Uthukela" towed the damaged tug away from its berth to a repair yard after the accident.
