Oil spill in Megara
An oil spill originated from the shore side/terminal installation pipeline during discharging operations of the "Rava" in the port of Megara the afternoon of March 3, 2019. When the crew noticed the leakage from the shore installation, it immediately stopped the cargo operation and alerted the terminal regarding leakage on their installation. At the time of the incident the vessel was discharging with only one COP (No. 1) with pressure of 2,5 bars on manifold No. 1 and 3,0 bars on manifold No. 3 while agreed/maximum permitted pressure by the terminal was 8 bars. 5,5 after the incident occurred, the discharging operation was resumed, and it was completed at 7.20 p.m. on March 4. Since some oil had polluted the hull along the waterline the oil was cleaned during discharging of remaining cargo at terminal expense. The spill caused pollution to an area of approximately 500 square metres. Oil response teams using detergents and absorbent materials were activated by the authorities. The vessel sailed on March 4 at 10.30 p.m. On March 5 it was moored in pos. 37° 51.91' N 023° 29.49' E on Piraeus anchorage.
