Race yacht taking on water
The "Rapscallion" with two males on board was in a position 3 miles south west of Selsey Bill when she reported a lot of water in the cabin area and that they were heading back towards Portsmouth on June 27, 2014. The bilge pumps were just about keeping the water level down. Solent Coastguards requested the Selsey RNLI all-weather lifeboat launch as a precaution. The RNLI volunteer crew were paged at 11.22 p.m. and launched the Tyne class Lifeboat "Voluntary Worker" at 11.33 p.m. The yacht was located 2.5 miles south of Langstone harbour. The weather on scene was wind force 4-5 with a slight to moderate sea. The crew of the "Rapscallion" were happy to continue to Portsmouth Harbour with the lifeboat escorting them. After entering the harbour at 12.49 a.m on June 28, the yacht found a birth in Haslar Marina. Once the "Rapscallion" was secured alongside and the skipper was happy the lifeboat was released by Solent Coastguard to return to Selsey.
