Ferry crew saved distressed boaters

Two lucky were rescued by the "Quinitsa" off Denman Island on May 22, 2016. Around 3:30 p.m., the captain of the "Quinitsa" was alerted to a sinking nearby vessel and two people in the water by the ferries security centre. The ferry departed early from the Hornby Island terminal to help the distressed boaters, who were about halfway along the route to Denman Island. A rescue boat was launched from the ferry and a man and a woman were lifted out of the frigid water unharmed. Their 16-foot Glasscraft fiberglass boat was sinking, with only a quarter of the boat above water. A local resident helped tow it to shore. The two boaters were brought aboard the ferry and warmed up with blankets and hot drinks.

Ferry crew saved kayaker

The crew fof the "Quinitsa" acted quickly to save the life of a kayaker lost in the water off Vancouver Island on June 19, 2015. The Canadian Coast Guard asked for help at about 9:45 p.m. with a search and rescue operation for a female kayaker. At the time it was called, it was docked at Denman Island unloading passengers and vehicles from Buckley Bay. The ferry's rescue boat was launched at about 9:50 p.m. and the crew saved the woman from the water about one nautical mile north of the Buckley Bay terminal. The woman was transferred to RCMP and an ambulance on shore.
