Sailings cancelled due to Covid-affected shortening of staff

Mon Jan 17 10:19:17 CET 2022 Timsen

Four sailings were cancelled on Jan 15, 2022, on the 'Queen of Cowichan' between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo due to staffing issues. Some sailings could still go ahead despite a shortage of employees but that depended on whether key staff was affected. B.C. Ferries has contingency plans in place as requested by the provincial health officer to deal with a rise in absenteeism as the Omicron variant swept through the province, and that included cross-training staff to do other duties or deploying them to different locations. Service notices were posted online as soon as possible. Passengers can check bcferries.com for cancellations before heading to a terminal. They can also sign up to get cancellation notices sent to their mobile devices.
