Fire in New Bedford
On Jan 13, 2022, at 10.55 a.m.the New Bedford Fire Department received calls reporting a fire aboard the American fishing vessel 'Prowess' (MMSI:368111780), at the southeast end of Leonard’s Wharf. Smoke was emerging from theship which was moored to two other fishing vessels. Crews advanced one handline and extinguished the fire. They performed ventilation and checked for fire extension with the assistance of battery-powered rotary and reciprocating saws. Marine 38 responded and was used to push the three vessels together due to the wind separating them making climbing between them hazardous. The cause of the fire was investigated by the New Bedford Fire Department Fire Investigation Unit and determined to be accidental. Crews were assisted by NBPD and NBEMS. No injuries were reported.
