Barge aground off Almere
In the afternoon of June 5, 2014, the "Poseidon", 1203 ts (EU-No.: 04400590) ran aground on the Muider Sand off Almere. At 5:08 p.m. the Dutch Coast Guard alerted the lifeboat "Nicholas Wijsenbeek" of the KNRM station Huizen by telephone about the grounding of a boat. Only after passing the Holland Bridge the crew of the lifeboat remarked the grounded "Poseidon" near the Marina Muider Sand. Once on the spot, the situation was assessed. The barge was unloaded and has a draught of about one meter. Wind on scene was SW 5 Bf, pushing the stern "Poseidon" onto the shallows with the bow on deeper water. In consultation with the German skipper was decided to attempt to pull off the ship. The ship could be refloated smoothly after the lifeboat connected a towing wire to the bow and turned it with full power into the wind direction deeper water. The "Poseidon" supported the effort with its own engines. After the ship was floating again, it could continue its way towards Amsterdam, and the "Nicholas Wijsenbeek" returned to the rescue station.
