The German research vessel „Maria S. Merian“, 5573 gt (IMO: 9274197) on Mar 7, 2010, remained berthed in the port of nach Limassol after its collision with the "Pontos“, in the midday hours of Mar 5. The start of the research expedition „MSM14/3“ in connection with the CyprusArc-Project off the Cyprus coast which was scheduled for the foremidday of Mar 6 with 22 scientists and a crew of 23 had to be cancelled thus. The "Pontos“ departed the same evening bound for Piraeus from Limassol and berthed at Perama on Mar 7, while the "Maria S. Merian“ had to remain at the local container terminal where damaged parts - among them a lifeboat - were removed and stored on the quay.
