Repair still going on
The "Pirgos" is still under repair at the MAN Diesel Y Turbo Canarias S.L.' repair berth at Las Palmas and actually ballasted forward to enable access to engine room, propeller and tail shaft areas. The ship is under major repairs of tailshaft and main engine repairs since half a year. The ship had suffered engine failure in the Atlantic in November 2014. Disabled ship towed to Canarys
On Nov 30, 2014, the "Pirgos" arrived at Las Palmas being towed by the tug "VB Artico" (IMO: 7613014) of Boluda Towage and Salvage after having suffered engine failure underway from Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Atlantic Ocean, around 1200 miles off Las Palmas. The ship could be taken in tow despite stormy conditions with winds of 120 km/h. The casualty was delivered at Muelle Pesquero on Nov 30 at 1.45 p.m. and was remaining there since. Turkish Design "M/V Pirgos" delivered to her owner
M/V Pirgos, a 9000 DWT green general cargo vessel designed by Norden Ship Design Turkey and built by Anrun Ship Co. China has been delivered to her owner Elefteros Maritime from Panama, the designer informed. The vessel, part of Norden’s new Eco Series of general cargo vessels, features an innovative hull form and numerous green technology solutions to achieve class leading fuel consumption and low emissions. The cargo vessel will be managed by LCSC-Burgas, Bulgaria. The vessel was classed by RINA and holds Green+ notation and green passports.The CFD optimized hull form and a new bow design provide the vessel with excellent sea keeping characteristics. Combined with a high efficiency propeller and cup fins, the vessel can achieve a fully loaded speed of 12.5 knots (%85 MCR+%5 Sea Margin) and consumes 8.0 MT HFO/day. The economic speed of 10knots further reduces the consumption down to 5.5 MT HFO/day. The vessel requires 0.4MT MDO/day at EU port idle condition and by utilizing the solar power and cold ironing can achieve Zero Emission at port.The vessel is equipped with solar panels on wheelhouse, low consumption lights, frequency converters for electric motors and systems that monitors and controls the total energy efficiency.
