Last bodies of crew missing after collision wiith Hai Thanh 26 found

Sat Apr 01 22:43:30 CEST 2017 Timsen

Rescuers have found the last three bodies stuck in the "Hai Thanh 26" in the morning of Apr 1. The ship had sunk with 11 people following a collision earlier this week with the "Petrolimex 14". Divers found the bodies at around 9 a.m., two of them stuck in the engine room. An investigation will be launched after the sunken ship has been raised. Nine men were killed after the cargo ship sank about 44 nautical miles to the east of Vung Tau City in the early morning of March 28 while carrying clinker to the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. Seven of the bodies have been found inside the ship and two others drifting in the sea. The crew of the "Petrolimex 14" had found a raft carrying the two survivors of the sunken ship, including its captain, at 7 a.m. that day. The sunken ship belongs to Phuong Thinh shipping company in the northern province of Thai Binh. The wreck was lying in a depth of 30 meters and was damaged amidships.

Tanker saved survivors of Hải Thành 26-sinking

Tue Mar 28 13:33:52 CEST 2017 Timsen

On March 28, 2017, at midnight the Vietnamese flagged cargo m/v "Hải Thành 26", 1599 gt (IMO: 9611096), sank following a collision in the Vung Tau Sea, 44 nautical miles east of Vung Tau City in southern coastal Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province. The MRCC immediately asked the "Petrolimex 14" which was sailing some five nautical miles near the accident site, to proceed to the area. At the same time, the centre also informed the two other vessels "SAR 413" and "SAR 272"to support the SAR operation. The "Petrolimex 14" found a breeches-buoy with two crew members of the sunken ship on board. Both were rescued. One of them told that the other crew members of the "Hải Thành 26" had drifted away on another breeches-buoy. The "Petrolimex 14" and two vessels continued their search around until they found another breaches-buoy at about 8.10 a.m., but there was no one on board. The "Hải Thành 26" sank at midnight after colliding with a yet unidentifid ship. The ship with 11 crewmen and clinker on board was sailing from northern Hai Phong City to southern Can Tho City.
