Petalon disabled off Plymouth
The "Petalon" was disabled in the English Channel south of Plymouth on Sep 19, 2017, around midday. The vessel made a full circle while reducing speed. At 2.30 p.m. it was moving in northeast direction on an opposite direction lane with a speed of about two knots. It resumed sailing at normal speed at 8.30 p.m. and moved back to the recommended lane in the traffic separation zone. The "Petalon" was en route from Sept-Iles to Ghent, ETA Sep 20, 10 p.m. The ship was moored on Westhinder anchorage at 8 p.m.

The Coast Guard was checking buoys and the depth of the Thimble Shoals Channel after the "Petalon" ran aground on Apr 18, 2011, about 3.5 nautical miles north of east Ocean View at 3:00 a.m. The vessel was refloated about 8:00 a.m. Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads sent a navigation team checking the buoys to see that they were in the right place and that the lights were properly working. The Army Corps of Engineers was also surveying the channel to check the depth and contours of the channel. The Coast Guard requiered a dive survey of the "Petalon".
