Barge salvage has commenced

On Nov 23 the operation to refloat the barge which was unhooked from the "Parallel" and ran aground near the Black Sea Rybport began. A tug was trying to overcome the sand spit near the beach, supported by a pilot boat. In the early morning, dockers had pumped water from the hold of the barge. Tug and barge with contraband grounded in Odessa

In the morning of Nov 19, 2018, the "Parallel" got in trouble near the Tendrovsky braid along with the barge "UDP-DM-2309-UDP" in a storm. HThe crew noticed a leak in the engine compartment and issued a distress signal. The crew was rescued by a tanker near Arcadia. Later it turned out that the sailors had unhooked the barge. After a few hours tboth ships came ashore in the area of the Black sea. Onboard the barge were 10.000 boxes of cigarettes, on the whole five million packs, and there was no documents for the cargo. The ship was taken under protection by boarder guards and the SBU and an investigation launched by the police in order to find out the origin and route of the cargo. The crew of “Parallel”, however, denies that it was carrying contraband. The sailors insisted that they werecoming from the Naked Pier in Skadovsk. The cargo was about a third of the monthly illegal export of tobacco products in the EU. Usually tthe smuggler send smaller parties.
