Grounding off Suez

On Aug 6, 2021, at 6 p.m. the 'Panamax Oustria' ran aground in the Gulf of Suez. The ship was en route from Chornomorsk to Machong and had completed the transit of the Suez Canal with no pilot on board. As of Aug 9, five tugs were around.On Aug 16, the ship was still stuck in pos. 29° 53.24' N 032° 33.03' E.

Cleanup efforts continued after oil spill

Coast Guard personnel continued to monitor cleanup efforts on June 14 for the fuel spill in the Elizabeth River that occurred the previous day at Lambert's Point in Norfolk. The National Response Center contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center watchstanders at approximately 3:20 p.m. that day reporting a fuel spill aboard the "Ostria S". Sector watchstanders dispatched a Coast Guard pollution response crew to the scene to oversee the cleanup efforts. Accurate Marine Environmental Incorporated personnel placed 3,000 feet of containment boom around the vessel and pier to contain the fuel. Personnel from Marine Spill Response Corporation, the oil spill response organization, arrived on scene on June 13 and began cleanup operations. The source of the spill was secured while the quantity of fuel spilt was still unknown. Coast Guard personnel continued to investigate the cause of the spill. The Elizabeth River remained open to boating traffic.

Oil spill in Elizabeth River

The "Ostria S" spilt fuel into the Elizabeth River while refueling Fridon June 13, 2014. The vessel was refueling at the Norfolk Southern Coal Pier at Lambert’s Point. While it was refueling, some of the fuel spilled and overflowed from the tanks onto the deck, and then from the deck into the water around 3:20 p.m. It was unknown how much fuel leaked into the water. There was a pollution response team monitoring the situation to make sure it was cleaned to Coast Guard standards. Accurate Marine Environmental Incorporated personnel placed 3,000 feet of containment boom around the vessel and pier to contain the fuel. Personnel from Marine Spill Response Corporation, the oil spill response organization, arrived on scene Friday and began cleanup operations. Cleanup efforts are expected to continue through Sunday.
