Tanker rescued crew of distressed yacht

The US Coast Guard and good Samaritans aboard one sailing vessel and two commercial vessels rescued two adults and two young children from the 'Le Chercheur' approximately 1,105 miles north-east of Bermuda, on May 31, 2023. The Coast Guard 5th District Command Center received an EPIRB signal and a relay call for assistance from the crew of the yacht, en route from Saint Maarten to the Azores, who felt sea-sick, fatigued, and were concerned about incoming weather. The command center conducted an AMVER surface picture to determine the closest vessels to the distress location. They contacted two AMVER vessels, the 'Antarctic' and the 'Overseas Santorini', which diverted to assist the sailors. The sailing vessel 'El Areo' was also in the area and diverted to render assistance. The 'Overseas Santorini', en route from Corpus Christi to Algeciras, located the yacht and embarked the crew shortly before the sailboat began listing and taking on water. The two adults and two children, aged five and eight, were taken to Algeciras, Spain and reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Medevac off Trafalgar

On Aug 4, 2020, the SAR helicopter Helimer 211 was mobilized by the CCS Tarifa of Salvamento Marítimo to carry out a medical evacuation of a sick crew member from of the 'Overseas Santorini'. The vessel was about 80 miles from Trafalgar enroute from Texas City to Gibraltar. The patient was safely hoisted and has been transferred to the Jerez airport.
