Tanker rescued 12 migrants

Mon Apr 10 14:51:36 CEST 2023 Timsen

The crew of the ÄOverseas Long Beach' has rescued 12 migrants off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico, while en route from Corpus Christi to Jacksonville with an ETA as of April 3, 2023. It located a small ship in distress off the Southwest Pass. The tanker's captain quickly diverted and approached the boat with 12 people on board, who were adrift without food, water or fuel. Some of them needed medical help. In coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, the captain of the tanker prepared a rescue operation. They made contact with the ship, maneuvered alongside and rescued those on board. On of the crew members acted as an interpreter for the survivors, who said they had only half a liter of water left and ran out of food a week ago. Their real destination was Mexico. After safety and first aid checks, the survivors were taken to the crew lounge where they were provided with mattresses, blankets, food and water.
