Pirates left vessel
The hijackers who boarded the "OS 35" and fled, presumably after Chinese and Indian Navy approached the vessel. The crew of 19 had retreated to the citadel after activating the alert system. Maritime officials received an alert on Apr 8, 2017, that pirates had boarded the timber-carrying ship about 75 miles from the coast of Yemen. Ships from three countries diverted to its path. A Chinese team boarded the vessel early on Apr 9. All on board the hijacked ship were safe and heading to an unnamed destination under escort. Navy ships from India, China and Pakistan (the last operating as part of an international combined task force) changed course to approach the ship soon after the alert was raised. It was believed the hijackers fled the ship during the night. An Indian Navy helicopter reconnaissance found the vessel free of pirates durnig two flights at night and at sunrise. The incident happened in the Gulf of Aden in vicinity 14 03N 051 40E, in the afternoon of Apr 8. while the ship was en route from Port Klang to Aden. On April 1 she changed course and headed for Salalah, at a reduced speed. She was brought at anchor off Salalah, but resumed sailing on Apr 7. The vessel was said to have been boarded by a group of militants and stopped northwest of Socotra's western tip with the last AIS position on Apr 9 being in 14 02N 051 40E, with the vessel dead in the water.
