Shipping line Geest helps Dominican relief effort

Wed Sep 09 09:59:40 CEST 2015 arnekiel

UK-based Caribbean cargo specialist specialist Geest Line is rallying to the cause of relief efforts for the devastated storm-hit island of Dominica.Tropical Storm Erika on 27 August caused flooding and at least 200 landslides that left 20 people dead, 50 missing and annihilated road links and communications in Dominica’s deadliest natural disaster since 1979.Geest Line, which has linked the UK and the Caribbean for more than 60 years carrying primarily bananas eastbound and essential supplies for the Caribbean westbound, is shipping free of charge aid relief, such as plastic barrels, blankets and water to the Craibbean island.Geest md Peter Dixon said: “It has been heart-breaking to see the death and destruction on Dominica, an island with whose people we work very closely on a daily basis. After discussions with the Dominica High Commission in London we pledged to offer any help we could with relief efforts and rebuilding.”Geest’s Klipper Stream vessel, pictured wiil be sailing from the UK with supplies on 8 September 8, followed by another of Geest’s four vessels, Agulhas Stream, on 21 September. Cargo shipping services supplier MMD (Shipping Services) of Portsmouth is also waiving its costs in support of the cause. Published inGlobal Whispers, Containers
