Dredging in Sydney, NS, slightly delayed by pump problem
A pump problem with the "Oranje" actually dredging Sydney (Nova Scotia) harbour will push the project’s conclusion date back a few days .A part in one of the pumps needed to be replaced and had to be brought in from Holland. Two to three days of unscheduled maintenance were predicted. The setback with the "Oranje" means the dredging will conclude on Christmas Day, as opposed to Dec. 21, 2011, as originally scheduled. So far 2.5 million cubic metres of seabed material have been excavated. The $37-million project began on Oct. 1, 2011, and will eventually see the removal of more than four million cubic metres of materials from the nine-kilometre access channel, deepening it to about 17 metres.
