Juice tanker released
The Navy of Brazil has released the "Orange Sun" at the beginning of the night of July 20. After the accident, pilots of São Paulo reported that the vessel was not seaworthy but did not say if the problem was mechanical or related to climatic conditions. The Navy of Brazil requested the vessel to anchor in the bar channel of Santos port, to carry out inspection and verification of possible malfunctions. On July 20, the vessel underwent three inspections: the classification society, an underwater inspection and an assessment of the Port authorities. The three competent bodies have formalized reports that showed that there were no structural or navigation problems. The Navy released the vessel around 5 p.m., and it sailed towards New Jersey. The Port authorities have opened an investigation to determine possible responsibility. Several crew members of the vessel have provided testimony to assist in the investigation.
Juice tanker had near miss
The "Orange Sun", loaded with 30.000 tons juice, had a near miss with the pier of Praticagem in Ponta da Praia and small boats, which were scattered around, while leaving Santos in the afternoon of July 19, 2018, in dense fog, bound to Big Bend. The ship had unmoored from Citrosuco at Margem Esquerda at 5.04 p.m., but suddenly turned hard to starboard while maneuvering and had to drop anchor to avoid an allision. Tugs pulled the ship to a safe position. The ship was detained for inspections of possible damages. On July 20 it was still moored at Santos outer Anchorage in pos. 24° 8.86' S 046° 17.72' W.
