Engine loss while towing another ship

The 'GV Opportune' lost engine power, whilst towing another vessel to Peterhead, in position 57 27 42.0 N, 001 43 54.0 W on Feb 28, 2021. The Peterhead lifeboat was called to assist the ship 6.8 nautical miles south of Buchanness Lighthouse at 1:58 p.m. by the UK Coastguard. The power loss occurred while towing an uncrewed fishing vessel. The 'Misses Robertson of Kintail' with its volunteer crew departed at 2:22 p.m. and made way to the casualty location, arriving on-site at 2:44 p.m. The crew stood by while the guard vessel tried to restart power. However, with light fading and no significant progress made, the fishing vessel was made ready for the tow back to Peterhead, leaving the 'Opportune' crew to continue trying to restart. The 'Misses Robertson of Kintail' arrived back in Peterhead at 4:53 p.m., transferring the tow to a Peterhead Harbour workboat, before heading back to the 'Opportune', who by this time had agreed with another fishing vessel a tow back to Peterhead. Guard ship adrift off Filey

The RNLI boat from Filey was called to assist the 'Opportune-WK 171' on Sep 1, 2020. Just after 4 p.m. the Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Filey’s all-weather Mersey class lifeboat 'Keep Fit Association', to the windfarm guard vessel which had suffered complete engine failure about six miles east of Filey. The ALB made best speed to the guard vessel where the decision was made to tow it to Scarborough. The sea was calm with a moderate breeze but it was a slow tow, and three hours later the 'Opportune' was safely berthed in Scarborough harbour.
