Container ship completed repairs
The 'ONE Orpheus', which had lost control of its rudder while transiting the Suez Canal with a northbound convoy, at the new branch of the Canal at Ismailia and allided with a hoisted bridge at the side of the entrance to the new Canal at Kilometre 74 on Dec 6, 2023, and which was anchored at Icdas on Dec 25, completed repairs, along with steel replacement, in the dry dock at the shipyard and sailed from the port on Feb 2 at 03.45 a.m. UTC, headed to Mersin, where it arrived on the port's anchorage on Feb 5 with an ETA in the port as of Feb 7.
Ship to be repaired before proceeding
The 'ONE Orpehus' require repairs before proceeding. The vessel which had been due to reach Rotterdam at the end of the week remained stationary the anchorage off Port Said as of Dec 13 and will undergo temporary repairs starting from Dec 11. Inderwater surveys had commenced on Dec 8 for a detailed assessment of the vessel's condition. There was a scrape or possibly a gash along the side of the hull from where the vessel penetrated the floating bridge.
Container ship investigated off Port Said
On Dec 9 the 'One Orpheus' remained at anchor in pos. 31° 26.57' N032° 28.50' E off Port Said. Ocean Network Express (ONE) wrote to customers that it would be advising them of the vessel's schedule once more information is available. The vessel was set to have an underwater inspection on Nov 8, to assess its conditions after the salvage, for which the Suez Canal Authority used four tugs and lasted about seven hours at approximately 7.30 p.m. Then the container ship was escorted north to exit the Suez Canal and reached the anchorage on Dec 7 at 2 a.m. The vessel had experienced a malfunction with its steering and its rudder, causing the allision with the bridge and subsequent grounding.
