MOL Motivator suffered only minor damage
After the "Zhong Xing 2" sank on May 5 at about 2:30 a.m. LT off Hongkong, 11 crew members were feared to have drowned after being trapped on the vessel. Poor visibility caused by heavy rain may have contributed to the collision with the "MOL Motivator". An oil slick was spotted together with debris and some floating ring, but no sign of the missing crews or the sunken vessel were found. The "MOL Motivator" suffered only minor damage and was able to sail under its own power. Report with photo: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/06/world/asia/cargo-ships-collide-near-hong-kong.html
MOL Motivator collides with cargo ship 'Zhong Xing 2' off Hong Kong, 12 crew members missing
A Chinese cargo vessel sank just outside Hong Kong waters after collision with another container ship. The accident took place in the early hours of the morning near Po Toi Island which lies at the edge of Hong Kong territory. A major rescue operation, coordinate by the Guangdong Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, is still underway. The 97-metre Zhong Xing 2 cargo vessel with 12 crew members was carrying cement from Hebei Province from Haikou in Hainan Province at the time of collision, according to the Hong Kong Marine Department. A Marine Department spokeswoman said the mainland-registered vessel collided with a 300-metre Marshall Islands-registered container ship, MOL Motivator, which was leaving for Yantian in Guangdong from Hong Kong.
