Ship section underway again

The "Odyseusz", pulling the 640-ton-section 51 of the Norwegian cruise ship newbuilding "Norwegian Getaway" bound for the Meyer Yard in Papenburg on deck of the barge "Crist", was allowed to leave the East Shore Port in Kiel in the morning of Nov 18. Workers of the Stocznia Gdańsk Spółka Akcyjna in Gdynia had welded additional fixings during the recent days. The ships entered the Holtenau locks at 6.15 a.m. and, after having transited the Kiel Canal without problems, was off Borkum in the morning of Nov 19, approaching the Ems in the run of the day. There were no delays expected regarding the delivery of the cruise ship in January 2014.

Cruise ship section threatened to plunge in the Baltic Sea

The "Odyseusz" had to shelter in the port of Kiel since Nov 11, 2012, after a section of the cruise ship newbuilding "Norwegian Getaway" started to shift on the barge "Crist" pulled by the tug from Gdynia to the Meyer Yard in Papenburg Yard/Ems after its departure on Nov 8 in the Baltic Sea. The ship moored in the Scheer Port on Nov 11, and on Nov 13 both tug and barge berthed in the East Shore Port of Kiel where shipbuilders from Gdynia started to fix the 640-ton-section with additional metal supports. The works were expected to be completed on Nov 17 so that the towage might continue once the police and shipping authorities have approved it to be safe.

In the early morning of Feb 5 the "Odyseusz" ran aground at the Holnis-narrow off Flensburg while towing a barge with sections for a ConRo-ferry-newbuilding for the Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG). The tugs "Holtenau" from Kiel and the Danish "Joulious" in vain tried to refloat the vessel, but did not come close enough to the accident site with their draught of 4,5 resp. 5,2 metres.
