Octaden saved 28 victims after boat capsize

Fri Jul 19 11:41:54 CEST 2013 Timsen

The crew of the "Octaden" on July 18, 2013, noticed a group of people clinging onto a capsized boat in the South China Sea near Tanjung Sedili Besar and rescued all 28 of them including three women and an eight-month-old baby. The victims, all Indonesians, were rescued about 34 nautical miles NE of Tanjung Sedili Besar here at around 3 p.m., 12 hours after their boat capsized. They were believed to have been on their way to Batam, Indonesia when their boat capsized due to strong currents. The Putrajaya Maritime Rescue Control Centre received a call from the vessel Octaden informing that they had saved the 28 from the sea. The MRCC sent a ship and speedboats with 30 officers speed boats to bring the victims back to shore and provide with medical treatment. One of the female victims was found unconscious and was pronounced dead at the jetty. Another seven men are believed to be still lost at sea and SAR efforts were being carried out to locate them.
