Fire disabled bulkcarrier

The "Fortune Harmony" issued a distress signal on Sep 23, 2016, at 3 a.m. after a fire had broken out in one of the cabins and spread to the superstructure. The vessel was moored 20 miles WE of Piriápolis on the Rio de La Plata. It en route from Halida to Recalada. The crew of 24 took refuge on the bow, as the accomodation block was in flames, preventing the use of lifeboats and access to emergency equipment. The Uuruguayan Navy sent the minesweeper "ROU 04 - Artigas", the "ROU 34 - Audaz", "ROU 20 -Bicentenary" and a reconnaissance aircraft and a helicopter in order to be able to quickly evacuate the Crew if needed. Early in the morning a team of Telemundo accompanied by troops of the Navy aboard an aircraft joined the operation. The fire was extinguished by the crew at 6 a.m., leaving the unloaded bulkcarrier disabled.
