Container ship ran onto coral reef
The "NYK Joanna" ran aground off Subic Bay in the early morning of April 19, 2018, as it attempted to avoid the collison with a fishing boat. The vessel was leaving Subic Bay and was headed for Manila short past midnight when it veered away to prevent hitting the boat and got into shallows off McMany’s Point. The vessel suffered minimal damage from hard corals. An inspection team from the Philippine Coast Guard and a towage company did not detect any leak in the hull nor a spill. The ship was refloated about 11 a.m. and anchored on a safe place for further assessment that it was seaworthy before being allowed to sail. On Apr 20 it was still moored at the Subic Bay Anchorage.
