Salvaged tanker auctioned

The 'Nu-Shi Nalini' has been sold through an auction monitored by the high court of Bombay to Global Tankers FZE for Rs 13,5 crore. The auction was ordered by the high court of judicature in Bombay, the admiralty and vice-admiralty jurisdiction and its commercial division onJan 3 to pay the expenses incurred by the Samson Maritime Ltd. for towing the vessel from Kerala to Goa, for the rempval of the naphta cargo and the general salvage operations. The ship remained anchored at Mormugao Port Trust to where it had been taken by the tanker 'Global Peak', until the Global Tankers FZE has paid the entire amount for the ship. The MPT was also in the porocess to calculate the expenditure incurred to date, which will be submitted to the court for recovery from the sale amount. Insurance and Surveyors and Loss Assessors Private Ltd.., appointed by the court, had valued the tanker at Rs 13,3 core including costs of towage. The ship was expected to be scrapped. Global Tankers has paid Rs 2 crore and has to pay the balance by Jan 24. Apart from that, cntempt proceedings will be initiated against Global Tankers FZE and its directors.

Salvaged tanker to be inspected ahead of auction

After the Marine Masters have finished pumping out 2,400 metric tonnes of naphtha from the 'Nu-Shi Nalini' into the tanks owned by Ganesh Benzoplast Ltd at Sada, Vasco on Dec 15, the vessel was tob be inspected by officials so that the auction process can begin. The Bombay High Court at Goa of judicature at Bombay admiralty and vice-admiralty jurisdiction and its commercial division have ordered that the 'Nu-Shi Nalini' has to be auctioned January 3, 2020, to pay the Samson Maritime Ltd. for expenses incurred to tow the vessel from Kerala to Goa for the operation to remove naphtha and salvaging the ship. The South Goa district collector, Ajit Roy, who inspected Ganesh Benzoplast’s tank farm, found that certain safety measures were not in place. He noted that the pipeline from berth 8 to the tanks was exposed at two places. The naphtha has been been sold to a Baroda-based firm which emerged as the highest bidder in the auction conducted by MSTC. The firm will have to arrange for the transport of the naphtha from Ganesh Benzoplast’s tank farm to its new destination.
