127 passengers taken off grounded ship
In the afternoon of Sep 15, 2016, the "Flinthörn" ran aground on the northern edge of the Rute Plate between Bensersiel and Langeoog with 127 passengers on board, among them several school classes, and a crew of three. They were underway to Langeoog. At 3.30 p.m. the master alerted the MRCC Bremen. As the lifeboat "Casper Otten" of the DGzRS Station, was participating in a manoever on the Jade, the "Neuharlingersiel" fo the station Neuharlingersiel and the "Elli Hofmann-Röser" of the station Baltrum and the "Bernhard Gruben" of the station Norderney as well as the police boat "Bayreuth“ and the customs boat "Helgoland“ attended. Due to the declining water level they had to Approach the ship from the sea side through the Accumer Ee between Baltrum and Langeoog. First on scene was a pleasure boat which took off all passengers in three runs. The crew remained aboard the "Flinthörn“ in order to get the ship, which was high and dry with a list to starboard, off. It refloated with the rising tide and berthed in Langeoog at 8.20 p.m. German report with photo: http://www.seenotretter.de/aktuelles/seenotfaelle/ansicht/news/ausflugsschiff-mit-mehr-als-100-kindern-im-wattenmeer-vor-langeoog-festgekommen/
Passenger ship disabled in Wadden Sea
On Aug 1, 2014, the "Flinthörn" got disabled in the Wadden Sea off Langeoog near buoy LW 2 due to engine damage and asked the "Casper Otten" of the DGzRS-station Langeoog for assistance. The ship which had 64 passengers on board was taken in tow and pulled into the port of Langeoog. The engine failure had been caused by a fault in the mechanic of the diesel fuel supply while the ship was on a fishing trip in the wadden sea. After the engine was supplied with bunker fuel, it could continue its cruise in the afternoon and also carry out an evening cocktail cruise.
