10 crew members still missing
On Nov 22, another body was found of the missing crew members of the '135 Geumseong', 129 gt, leaving 10 people still missing. Another body was recovered on Nov 16. Of the 10 people still missing, eight were South Koreans and the other two were Indonesians. The ship had on board 27 people, 16 South Koreans and 11 Indonesian, when the Coast Guard received a distress call on Nov 8 at 4:33 a.m. indicating that the vessel was sinking 24 km off the coast of Biyang Island. It had left Seogwipo Port in Jeju on Nov 7 at 11:49 a.m. to fish for mackerel. Of the crew, 15 were found alive, among them six South Koreans and nine Indonesians. Two Koreans were found in an unconscious state and were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead. At the time of the capsizing, most of the crew members were on deck, except for two including the cook, who were reportedly not wearing life jackets. 13 of 27 crew members rescued after ship sank, four recovered dead
On the early morning of Nov 8, the 'Keum Sung No. 135 (IMO: 8916592) sank in the Korea Strait near Jeju Island, South Korea. The vessel had been hauling in its catch when it lost stability and rolled over . A few minutes after the vessel sank, the Coast Guard received an alert and quickly responded. The Coast Guard deployed 14 patrol vessels and four helicopters to search for survivors and requested additional vessels and aircraft to assist in the search. The rescuers found 15 of the 27 crew members. Two of them rescued were found in cardiac arrest and were later declared deceased. During the following days, the Coast Guard recovered two additional bodies from the water with 10 crew members still missing. An oil sheen was visible over the wreck which was resting in a water depth of 80 to 90 meters.
