The "Densimo", 2421 ts(EU-No.: 02327312), being bound from Duisburg to Amsterdam, allided with a bridge spanning the Rhine-Herne-Canal in the evening of Sep 21, 2017. The fire rescue was alerted to the accident site at the power station Herne at 8.45 p.m. The accomodation block of the unloaded barge was severely damaged, the wheelhouse destroyed and the ship disabled. As it was initially unclear whether someone had fallen into the canal, divers were called. But it turned out that the crew of four was uninjured. The disabled barge was pulled into a nearby canal port by a tug. The ship traffic on the canal was barred until Sep 22 at 1.30 a.m. The bridge suffered only slight damage. Second grounding during salvage attempt
A first salvage attempt of the "Densimo" which was stuck on the Danube near Flintsbach at river km 2263,3 on Nov 23 failed. The "Arese", a 135-m-vessel, also ran aground. First the "Densimo" was refloated, but drifted some hundred metres Downstream where it grounded again, and the "Arese" got gravel in its bow thruster and got stuck itself at the right river shore. When darkness fell, the works were interrupted. Another ship which was berthed at Vilshofen was to resume the salvage on Nov 24. The river remained closed for ship traffic between Deggendorf and Vilshofen. In spite of that three ships passed the grounded ships, and during the passage the "Densimo" was pushed even higher aground. It was expected that both ships would have to be lightered now.
Grounding on the Danube
In the evening of Nov 22, 2013, the "Densimo" enroute Rotterdam - Linz ran aground with a cargo of 1900 tons iron ore on the Danube at Winzer in the Deggendorf municipality. Around 7 p.m. the vessel first scraped the bottom and then drifted around, before getting stuck on the right river side. The rudder gear of the ship was damaged, and the captain stopped it with an emergency ancoring manoever. Ship traffic on the river had to be interrupted between Deggendorf and Vilshofen.
