Neftegaz 70 towed tug to safety

On June 21, 2011, at 9.58 pm. LT the MRCC Sakhalin received a distress signal from the tug "Alexandr Poyarkov", which was towing a barge from the Rybnovsk port Sakhalin to port Sovietskaya Gavan and had encountered rough weather. Due to a failure of the propulsion shaft’s joint, the vessel got disabled and had to anchor in the Danger Point area in 51 15.76N 140 42.3E (Tatarskiy Strait), cutting off the towline to the unmanned barge which was in ballast. The vessel started to drift in coastline direction under N-NE wind up to 15 meters/sec, and seas of tow meters height. The MRCC directed the "Neftegaz-70" to the distressed vessel and she arrived to the scene at 10.30 p.m. on June 21. The rough weather didn’t permit a safe evacuation, and the "Neftegaz-70" took the tug in tow. At 03.15, June 22, the "Neftegaz-70" started to tow tug to nearest refuge place, which was the De-Kastri Bay. At 06.55 a.m. the tug reached the De-Kastri Bay and anchored, no injures reported. odin.tc
