Indian crew repatriated after fire
Four Indian crew members of the "Navi Moon" which caught fire at Marsa Alam south of Ghalib Port were being brought back home, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Nov 3, 2016. The damaged ship was still being anchored in the Red Sea.
Cargo ship gutted by fire - arson suspected
The "Navi Moon" caught fire on Oct 20, 2016, in the Red Sea 13 miles south of Ghalib p near Marsa Alam beach. The vessel was en route to Suez, and there was no distress signal issued. The 13 crew members went into a life boat and were rescued by the tourist boat "Safaga Star", some suffered burns. The superstructure burned out. The Egypt authorities suspected arson to destroy the vessel in order to get the insurance money. The ship had sailed from Port Sudan on Oct 7 and anchored near the fire site, south of Ghalib, on Oct 11. The last AIS signal dated from Oct 14 with the ship being still at anchor.
