Clipper Falcon suffered rudder damage before grounding
On Dec 12, 2012, the "Clipper Falcon" grounded south of the Fort Island on a stone dam off the lock system of IJmuiden. The rudder of the ship, which was en route from Sierra Leone to Amsterdam, obviously had failed before the incident which occurred around 4:45 p.m. by unknown reasons. One hour later the tugs "Triton" and "Thetis" of Iskes refloated the ship and towed it to the fishing harbor where it was inspected for damage. At 5.15 p.m. the ship left for Amsterdam and berthed at Kloosterboer at 5.45 p.m. The crew of 15 remained uninjured. The ship had chosen the southern port entrance at the Fort Island, north of the cruise ship terminal. Other shipping coming from or going to the North Sea could enter the port via the north entrance.
