PCG started investigation into fire
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) investigators started conducting a probe to determine what caused the fire that broke out on July 16 at 2 a.m. on the 'Trans Asia 1' off Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, that has been grounded by a typhoon since December 2021. The cause of the fire which had started at the passenger economy arearemained undetermined yet. The fire was put out 13 hours laterm and two crew members were injured. The crew was forced to abandon the ship when the fire became uncontrollable. A PCG team continuously monitored the vessel after the fire. Seven crew members and a security guard were posted aboard the vessel after the grounding to ensure equipment and materials would not be stolen. The ship is now largely gutted. Ferry on fire
The 'Trans-Asia 1' caught fire at dawn on July 16, 2022. Two people were brought to the hospital while six others were rescued unharmed. The vessel was manned by seven crew men and a security guard when the fire broke out. It had been idle since Typhoon Odette hit Cebu in December 2021 and was moored 100 meters off Barangay Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Fire on board at Cebu, one crew injured, no oil spill
Manila, Jul 10 -- Passenger ro/ro Trans-Asia 1 (3797 gt, built 1972) reportedly experienced fire, while docked at the FF Cruz Wharf in Cebu, Philippines, at about 0348 hrs, local time, today. The Bureau of Fire Protection was subsequently able to extinguish the fire at around 0718 hrs, local time. One crew member sustained a minor injury due to the incident. The Philippine Coast Guard is investigating the incident. No oil spill has been reported.
