Abandoned ship pulled to breakers
The "Condor" which has been detained in the port of Zeebrugge since April 2010, is getting demolished at Galloo shipbreakers in Ghent. On Dec 3, 2013, the tugs "Barracuda" and "Multratug 10" pulled the ship out of the port where it had been moored since April 19, 2010. It had been detained during a stopover enroute from the Caribbean to Poland with a cargo of 1200 tons rice. A port state control had proved that it was no longer seaworthy duue to 47 defiencies. Some provisional repairs were carried out , but they were not sufficient. The crew which consisted of three Hondurans, a Jamiacaan and a Panamanian, were removed from the ship and the country as illegal immigrants by order of the social inspection. One remaining sailor from Myanmar disappeared in 2010, just before he was to be deported too. In summer 2011 the port authoritiy pumped off the fuel from the vessel. Recently the ship started making water and threatened to sink sot the seaport made the necessary adjustments so that it could sail. Over the past years it took tat least 100,000 Euros for repairs and port charges. The legal fees and costs for the port services were not yet included in the calculations. The ship was owned by a shipping company based in Suriname, but the port authority never received answers to its questions from there.
