Crew member killed by breaking mooring line
Two crew members of the 'Mutiara Persada 2' were struck by a breaking mooring line at the port of Merak, Java, in the morning of July 28, 2020, around 6 a.m. Both were taken to hospital, one later died from the injures, the other man suffered slight injures. The ferry left port again at 7.10 a.m., bound to Bakauheni.
Three tugs refloated ferry
Three tugs, among them the "Merak" and "Muara Sejati", started to refloat the KMP "Mutiara Persada II" in the morning of June 8 at 10 a.m. near Rimau Island. One tug was called from Panjang. The ferry was stuck at Gosong on a cluster of coral reefs. Some passengers have already been taken to hotels in Bandar Lampung. The ship transported 516 passengers. Some pedestrian passengers choose to continue the journey. Passengers carrying vehicles were waiting for the ship to be refloated. After being pulled off, the "Mutiara Persada" was waiting to enter the Bakauheni Port Pier in Lampung to unload the vehicles. At 1 p.m. unloading of the 54 vehicles commenced. Ferry grounded off Rimau Balak
The KMP "Mutiara Persada 2" with 516 passengers on board ran aground off Rimau Balak island in the Sunda Strait on June 7, 2019, at 4.15 a.m. The ferry was en route from Merak Java to Bakauheni and approaching the port, when it got stuck with its starboard side foreship after having been caught by currents. After an initial attempt to pull the ship off with a tug, had failed, all passengers were evacuated and transferred to Bakauheni. The ship was still stuck at noon.
