Med Fos left the scene
The "Med Fos" which had been towing the capsized "Mustafa Kan" has left the operation on Oct 16 and was now sailing with 10 knots, returning to her salvage station at Lavrion. The ikntentions of the nearby tug "Christox XII" sailing with 0,8 knots SW of the position was unclear by the time being.
Capsized wreck taken in tow
The "Mustafa Kan" in fact did not sink, but remained afloat bottom up and was taken in tow and has been engaged by the Greek tug "Pantanassa" (IMO: 9332561), chartered by the insurer, and pulled in SE direction minimizing the risk that the ship could drift onto the Italian coast and in particular to the protected area of Plemmirio and islands of Ciclopi. The wreck was now pulled at an extremely slow Speed towards Cyprus, guarded by naval units fromCatania and anti pollution vessels. There were no spills of pollutants up to now. The cargo, ammonium phosphate, was considered to be environmentally safe, but there are fuel and oil on board, which may leak.
