Tanker off Roussa refloated
The tug "Christos XXVIII" was ordered to refloat the "Agios Georgios 1" off the island of Roussa jointly with the 'Apollon'. Five boats and a group of divers of the Greek Coast Guard were on scene to check the hulls for fuel leaks. A Lloyd's Open Form salvage contract was accomplished with the owners of the "Agios Georgios 1". The tanker was floating again on March 18 and entering the port of Gavrio, escorted by the "Christos XVIII" at midday. Tanker grounded off Andros
The "Agios Georgios I" ran aground near Gavrio on rocks off the west coast of Andros island in the night of March 15, 2019, around midnight, while approaching Gavrio port. The ship which had a crew of 8 Greeks on board and two passsengers, was loaded with 880 cbm of oil, 455.46 cubic meters of gasoline and 428.29 cubic meters of diesel oil. no leak was reported so far. It had just sailed from Andros and was bound to Skyros. At 5 p.m. the tug "Apollon" (IMO: 7431806) was called from Ermoupolis to assist. The tanker was to be surveyed by divers in the run of March 16 prior to refloating attempts. The Greek Coastguard was monitoring the site with three patrol boats to ensure no oil spill occurred. Oil booms were leaid out. The ship had suffered a small breach of 15x4 centimeters at its port side bow.
