Released by pirates after they stole cargo, in Gulf of Guinea style
Chemical tanker Danai 4, lost since Oct 13, was hijacked by pirates and released either at night Oct 15 or in the morning Oct 16, after its’ cargo of fuel oil was stolen, reported Bangkok Post citing IMB Kuala Lumpur. Tanker is to return to Singapore, cancelling initial voyage to Vietnam. Right now tanker can’t be tracked because pirates destroyed all communication equipment, including AIS. This is rather unusual incident with regards to South East Asia piracy, it’s more in Nigerian piracy style. In any case, it’s an alarming incident maybe signaling a new type of piracy emerging in the region. Voytenko Mikhail
