Container ship with supplies for Syrian refugees in Turkey left N.J. this weekend
A cargo ship container carrying 15,000 hygiene kits packed with shampoo, combs and towels left the Elizabeth seaport this weekend bound for Turkey to help Syrian refugees there (Aug. 20). The shipment is a project of a coalition of nearly 70 faith-based and humanitarian organizations that joined together to address the Syrian refugee crisis. The kits were loaded on the ship destined for Turkey on Friday, which was World Humanitarian Day, an annual reminder of the need to help the suffering. A container ship with supplies is leaving the Elizabeth port One of 15,000 hygiene kits prepared for people in war-torn Syria. The cargo is expected to leave Elizabeth Saturday and the kits should arrive at their destination in about six weeks, an organizer said. “These are items we take for granted, but if you are a refugee living in a place that doesn’t have anything, you don’t even have a comb or a nail clipper, and this is essential for them,’’ said Rabbi Eric J. Greenberg, director of outreach communications, programs and multifaith relations for the Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees. “As the United Nations and other world health organizations will tell you, to maintain grooming and hygiene is basic to maintaining their health.” http://www.northjersey.com/news/container-ship-with-supplies-for-syrian-refugees-in-turkey-to-leave-n-j-this-weekend-1.1647623
