World’s largest container ship MSC Gülsün to visit Rotterdam
Tuesday, 3 September, between 2 and 3 p.m., the port of Rotterdam expects to welcome MSC Gülsün. The ship will be calling on the APMT2 terminal at Maasvlakte 2 in Rotterdam. With a length of 400 metres and a width of 62 metres, this vessel has a capacity of 23,756 TEU (20-foot standard containers), making it the largest container ship in the world. MSC Gülsün is the first vessel of its kind that can transport 24 containers side by side across the breadth of its hull. Until recently, the 21,413-TEU OOCL HongKong, which was taken into service two years ago, ranked as the world’s largest container ship.
World’s Largest Containership Completes Maiden Voyage from China to Europe
The world’s largest containership, MSC Gülsün, has completed its maiden voyage from Asia to Europe, its MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company said Monday. AIS ship tracking data shows the MSC Gülsün has arrived in Bremerhaven, Germany after completing its journey from northern China. At some 400 meters long and more than 60 meters wide, MSC Gülsün has a remarkable 23,756 TEU capacity. The record-setting capacity means the ship can emit less CO2 per container carried. Built at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, the vessel is the first in a class of 10 ultra-large container vessels (ULCVs) to be delivered to MSC. In total, SHI will deliver six of the new class of ships, while Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is constructing the other five, also in South Korea.
