Two men arrested, dead Serb taken to autopsy
Investigators have arrested two men who were on the 'MSC Adelaide' in connection with the cocaine raid. One of them was caught taking bags from a container placed in the CCTV room. The value of the drugs seized would have been 30 million Euros. The body of the 50 year old Serb who was also found on board was taken to an autopsy to find out how he was killed. The possibility that he committed suicide has not yet been ruled out. However, it was suspicious that the weapon was not found next to the body.
Serbian sailor found dead with cut throat, 445 kilos cocaine seized
445 kilos of cocaine were seized by the organized crime investigation group, Gico, on the 'MSC Adelaide' at the VTE Voltri Terminal Europa in the port of Genoa on Feb 5, 2022. The cocaine was hidden in 14 bags stowed inside a container loaded with coffee. The drugs had a street value of about 30 million Euros. In the operation, coordinated by the prosecutor Federico Manotti, of the Genoa DDA, a 50-year-old worker from the Culmv was arrested. On the same ship a Serbian sailor of about 50 was found lifeless with a cut in the throat. At the moment, according to what is learned from investigative sources, the two events do not seem to be connected. The 'MSC Adelaide', before its arrival in Genoa, had called at the ports of Las Palmas and Valencia.
Container ship sank pilot boat
On Jan 18, 2020, at 11.50 a.m. the 'MSC Adelaide', coming from Genoa, struck a moored pilot boat while approaching Gioia Tauro. The boat sank after being crushed between the container ship's bulbous bow and the quay. Immediate intervention of tugs avoided environmental pollution. The wreck was quickly recovered by a crane and placed on the quayside. The boat was unmanned at the time of an accident.
